We traveled to Buhl Thursday for our annual 4th of July family gathering (dad's side). Penny & Mike arrived Wednesday; Jack, Tina, Gabby & Gia arrived Thursday as did Leslie. We enjoyed ribs and potato salad, Brooks and Jack set up the tents and we all hung out and chatted until dark. Mom and dad's A/C went belly up, so the house was very warm all weekend, but it didn't dampen our fun, since the evenings cooled off for us. The kids got along great. Brooks organized a kids Olympics and the kids had a good time shooting targets with sling shots, waving ribbons, soaking each other with water guns, taking turns on the water slide, and playing X-box / DS.
- The Hanselman's and the Aberg's headed to downtown Buhl for the parade on the 4th. The kids enjoyed a front row spot and grabbed the candy thrown their way. Penny thought we should go get ice cream, so Jack googled Dairy Queen and we all headed to Twin (don't tell mom & dad, they thought we were at the parade the whole time). We enjoyed BBQ oysters, hamburgers, hot dogs & Kalbi chicken for lunch/dinner with some of the neighbors, and pulled up the lawn chairs to enjoy fireworks in front of the house and behind the house. We sat by the fire after the main fireworks were over and enjoyed smores.
- Saturday Penny and Mike left for Oregon, we took it easy and watched the kids play. We started a new tradition which is called appetizer/leftover night. Jack cooked up some Jalepeno poppers, and steamer clams. I made a smore casserole and we pigged out. YUMMY!!! Leslie organized a movie night which included popcorn, and pillows all over the floor. Gia was the only kid to make it to the end of the movie, Kai, Mitchell & Gabby were snoring Z's.
Sunday we packed everything up and the Hanselman's headed for Oregon with a quick stop at a Sonic somewhere in Boise, and we headed home to unpack all the food sent home with us. Ian, Barb, Aidan & Chloe came over to celebrate Kooky's birthday, so we enjoyed finger sandwiches (thanks for the food mom), watermelon, and cupcakes. We broke out the air hogs rocket launcher and the H2O car and did some test driving in front of the house.
